It was a Fallston Cougars sweep
Tuesday night in Havre de Grace, where both the boys and the girls lacrosse
teams won UCBAC lacrosse championships on the turf of James R. Harris Stadium.
The Cougar boys, champions of
the Chesapeake (upper) Division, opened the night with a dominating 16-2 win
over Susquehanna (lower) champ Havre de Grace. The Cougar girls, also
Chesapeake champs, followed up with an equally impressive effort in their 18-4
win over North East, champions of the Susquehanna.
The boys scored the game’s
first goal just 49 seconds into the action, but Havre de Grace was equal to the
task less then two minutes later.
From there on, though,
Fallston, which won 18 of 22 draw controls, reeled off the next 11 goals for a
12-1 lead.
Havre de Grace snapped the
streak with a late first half goal, the Warriors last tally of the night.
The Cougars added a pair of
goals in each of the final two quarters. The two in the third period gave
Fallston a 12-goal lead and started a running clock.
Taylor Brown led the Cougars
scoring with three goals, while Greg Horsham and Kyle D’Onofrio each found the
nets twice.
Brian White, who opened the
scoring with his only goal, was joined by Marc Badger, Jason Lawrence, James
Glezen, Andy Thrasher, Sam D’Onofrio, Travis Greene, Luke Ward and Jeremy
Scranton, who each had single goals.
Justin Gosnell had the
Warriors first goal on an end-to-end goal. Mark Holloway had the other Havre de
Grace goal, with an assist from Chris Castillo.
Fallston goalie Caleb Abney
had just two saves, while Warriors keeper Travis Coakley had a much busier
night, making 17 saves.
The Cougar girls needed just 52
seconds to get on the scoreboard then scored three more goals over the next two
minutes for a quick, 4-0 lead.
North East got on the board a
minute later, but the Cougars responded with a run of eight straight goals for
a 12-1 lead and a running clock for the 10-goal differential.
The Cougars salted away time
in the second half, but found opportunity to add six more goals, while North
East added two more to the two scored in the first half.
Courtney Laubach scored three
goals to pace the Cougars, while Abby Wilson, Sam Nolan, Devin Brady and Katie
Mozingo scored two goals each.
Single goals were tallied by
Paulina Christ, Jenna Mosketti, Heather Summers, Katie Lazzeri, Lindsay
Summers, Colleen Chassagne and Christina Wright.
Karley Bush and Amanda Jones
scored two goals each to provide the North East scoring.
Fallston goalie Catie Amasia
made four saves in a half of action, while North East keeper Kara Leffew made
nine saves in the loss.
