The C. Milton Wright Mustangs won their fourth UCBAC baseball title in five years Monday, with a 6-1 victory over the Susquehanna (lower) Division champion Patterson Mill.
The Mustangs earned their spot in Monday's conference final by taking the Chesapeake (upper) Division crown with a record of 10-2. The Huskies earned their first lower-division crown by going 12-2 against Susquehanna foes.
CMW starter Nick Stallings went the distance, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out 10 and allowing one walk over seven innings of work. After giving up a triple to Husky leadoff man Mike Delinski in the top of the first, Stallings did not allow another hit until the top of the sixth, when Delinski rapped out a single.
Patterson Mill took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat, when Delinski scored from third on Zach Scheuerman's sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the first, Stallings tied things up by belting an 0-2 changeup for an RBI single that scored Nick Testa, who had led off with a double. Later in the frame, CMW's Andrew Clow knocked home Colt Hancock with a sacrifice groundout to put the Mustangs up 2-1.
CMW stayed silent until the fifth, when Steven Rappe ripped an RBI triple to score Justin Martin. Rapp later scored the Mustangs' fourth run when Tyler Dameron hit an RBI single up the middle.
Testa and Hancock started the home half of the sixth with a triple and a bunt base hit, respectively, and both later scored on bases-loaded walks.
