In recent local baseball action, the Perryville Panthers (1-3 overall, 1-1 Susquehanna) knocked off the visiting Aberdeen Eagles (0-2 overall, 0-2 Susquehanna) 5-3 last Friday.
The Panthers’ George Skinner was the winning side’s top offensive contributor, knocking in three runs on three hits, and scoring one run himself. Jesse Ellis scored a team-high three runs and had two hits in the victory, while Chris Strong and Nick Michael each posted one RBI.
Perryville starter Jacob Morgan tallied eight strikeouts in five innings of work.
Aberdeen’s Dale Budnick was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, and scored one run. Griffin Godbey was 1-for-4 with one run scored, while Brian Felts had one hit and scored once. Ben Ensor and Andrew Johnson were both 1-for-4 with one RBI in the defeat. Aberdeen’s Zach Litsch finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Godbey made the start for Aberdeen, working over four innings in which he struck out five, walked five and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
Warriors split two
In their Monday afternoon home match up with the Edgewood Rams, the Havre de Grace Warriors (1-1 overall, 1-1 Susquehanna) suffered a 13-3 defeat.
Ram starter Joe Ward held the Warriors to six hits in a complete-game victory.
Detrick Matthews led the Rams’ hitters with a 4-for-4, four-RBI performance.
Last Friday, the Warriors kicked off their 2011 campaign with a 5-2 comeback victory over the host-team Joppatowne Mariners.
The Mariners posted two runs in the opening frame, but Havre de Grace answered with a pair of tallies in the second inning. The Warriors added one run in the third, fourth and sixth frames to round out scoring for the day.
Warrior freshman Kyle Greskoff made the most of his first regular-season varsity start, tossing a complete-game two-hitter. Through seven frames, Greskoff struck out five and walked two.
Joppatowne starter Jose Figueroa went five innings, striking out eight, walking four and holding the Warriors to three hits in the loss.
“Several key errors allowed the Warriors to capitalize on their opportunities,” Joppatowne head coach Will Smith said.
Aberdeen 0-2
Aberdeen was knocked off 12-1 at home by the Rising Sun Tigers on Monday.
Hunter Bachman was 1-for-3 and knocked in the Eagles’ only run. Dan Fama went 2-for-3 with a double and one run in the loss.
Panthers beaten
Perryville was upended 8-2 going away by the Susquehanna Division leader Patterson Mill on Monday.
Skinner smacked a pair of doubles in the loss.
