SARC, a Harford County nonprofit that works with victims domestic and sexual violence, child sexual abuse and stalking, recently welcomed Regina Burstein and Tamera Rush as new members of its board of directors.
Established in 1978, SARC provides a 24-hour helpline, crisis intervention, counseling and legal services, a 28-bed safe house, community outreach and education.
Burstein is a complex risk officer at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, where she is responsible for supervisory, compliance and risk functions at the branch level. She has a degree in business administration from Adelphi University in Long Island, N.Y.
Burstein and her family are residents of Abingdon. She and her husband are the parents of 3-year-old twins and an 18-month-old.
In a SARC press release, Burstein said she “looks forward to helping make a difference in the lives of families, in our community, especially those who think they may not have anywhere to turn.”
Rush is a business development director for the federal market at SRC, a not-for-profit research and development company with more than 50 years of experience in defense, environment and intelligence. She has authored multiple publications related to the defense industry in areas such as environmental, health and safety, biochemistry, hazardous materials and emissions testing.
Rush is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and the Association of the U.S. Army and president and founder of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Women In Defense. She has a master’s degree in organic chemistry and bachelor’s degrees in secondary education and chemistry from the State University of New York at Potsdam.
According to SARC, Rush originally joined the board of SARC in 2006. She has rejoined in 2010 to support the collaboration between the community and the military locally. It is her hope this collaboration will help with prevention of abuse, visibility across the community and sustainable support of the organization.
