It was once a fixture in each Harford County town, but is about to disappear from the landscape.

Acme Supermarkets is closing its store in Fallston, at 2315 C-7 Belair Road, by the end of February, according to a press release the company sent out Monday. It is the regional chain’s last Harford County store.

The Fallston store has been in the shopping center at the junction of Mountain Road and Belair Road since 1979, spokesman Steve Sylven said.

Acme has been an anchor of the shopping center, which has seen numerous stores come and go over the years and has usually had multiple vacancies at any given time.

Acme once had stores in Havre de Grace, Bel Air and Aberdeen, but they also were closed over the years.

“This is one of six stores we have closed throughout the mid-Atlantic region,” Sylven said.

The Fallston site was the only store in Maryland the chain closed.

Acme joined the Supervalu chain in 2006.

JMJ Fallston Properties LLC bought the 13.77-acre shopping center site in February 2004 for $5.2 million from 141 Defense Highway LLC, according to state tax records. Jack S. Jacob, who is listed as the resident agent of JMJ Fallston Properties, could not be reached for comment.
