Fire officials are investigating two Harford County fires, including one that caused $150,000 in damage to two Jarrettsville barns last week.

Around 3:20 p.m. Aug. 26, a neighbor discovered flames in a barn in the 1400 block of Knopp Road in Jarrettsville, according to deputy state fire marshals.

Thirty-five firefighters from Jarrettsville, Fallston and Bel Air battled the flames for an hour-and-a-half before getting the fire under control.

Two barns were consumed by the fire causing $150,000 in damage to the buildings and their contents, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Abingdon playground

Around 10:30 a.m. last Friday, an employee of Box Hill Community Services Association noticed a fire on a playground set in the 2900 block of Strathaven Lane in Abingdon, according to fire officials.

The fire, which investigators believe was intentionally set, caused about $50 in damage to the walkway of the play set.

Anyone with information on either fire is asked to call the state fire marshal’s office, 410-836-4844.
