A man barricaded himself inside his Jarrettsville home for several hours Monday evening before the situation was safely resolved.
A 49-year-old man got into an argument with his parents and around 4:30 p.m., they called 911 because he was allegedly threatening them with a gun, according to Monica Worrell, public information specialist with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
His parents left the home in the 2900 block of Felicity Court in Jarrettsville and he barricaded himself inside, Worrell said.
“During the time of the barricade he was inside the house alone,” Worrell said.
Police believed he had a gun and access to weapons, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s office tactical units, a mobile command post and the Harford County Office of Mental Health responded to the scene, according to Worrell.
“It was a proportional response for the intelligence we had,” Worrell said.
Around 7 p.m., the situation was safely resolved, according to the release.
Local traffic on Twin Lakes Drive was diverted from Bellechase Road to Seiter Lane from 5 to 7:15 p.m.
According to Worrell, the Office of Mental Health completed an emergency petition Monday night and the man was taken to Harford Memorial Hospital.
Worrell said he made statements during the incident that he would hurt police or others but no charges have been filed, although the sheriff’s office is conferring with the state’s attorney as to whether charges would be appropriate.
