Thanks to generous donations from hundreds of individuals and local businesses, schools and organizations, The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund was able to eclipse its 2009 fundraising goal while helping hundreds of Harford County families and senior citizens during the recently concluded Christmas season.
The Aegis Empty Stocking Fund volunteers extend a hearty thanks and a happy New Year greeting this week to those who contributed to the fund and provided thousands of new toys. Fundraising for 2009 as of Monday morning reached $84,300, well in excess of the $80,000 goal the committee set at the start of the season.
Special thanks to Walmart Store No. 2009 of Abingdon for its recent donation of $2,000 and to Advantage Title Co. for its donation of $100.
This season, the Empty Stocking Fund was able to help over 400 families, over 900 children and more than 100 senior citizens, providing Christmas gifts, food and essentials to make the holiday season a little brighter for less fortunate people.
The Empty Stocking Fund’s administrative costs are paid by Homestead Publishing Co., publisher of The Aegis, The Record, The Aegis Weekenders and APG News. Every dollar donated goes directly to help someone in need living in Harford County. Many Empty Stocking Fund volunteers are past or current employees of Homestead Publishing and members of their families.
If you would like to help a needy family or person facing financial stresses this winter or help the Empty Stocking Fund prepare for the 2010 Christmas season, please send a check to The Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 189, Bel Air, MD 21014, or you may drop off your donation at The Aegis, 10 Hays St. in Bel Air.
