A man Aberdeen police arrested March 4 on attempted child abduction charges remains in the Harford County Detention Center with no bond.
Anthony D.L. Nguyen, 59, of the 11000 block of Fairview Estates Drive in Fairfax, Va., was indicted March 17 on charges of an attempted kidnapping and second-degree assault.
On March 4, Nguyen allegedly tried to abduct a 6-year-old girl from Ollie’s Outlet Store in Aberdeen Shopping Plaza.
Police responded to Ollie’s at about 7:50 p.m. to investigate an attempted child abduction, according to Aberdeen police.
A caller from inside the store told police an Asian male put $5 in her 6-year-old daughter’s pocket and tried to get her to go with him.
The child, who was not injured during the incident, was able to pull away and ran to her mother, who was nearby, according to police.
The suspect left the store before police arrived.
Police said a credit card transaction led officers to the Holiday Inn where Nguyen was located and arrested.
Police have not yet identified a motive.
