To celebrate the success of its sixth annual PBA East Region Forest Hill Lanes Open, Forest Hill Lanes has donated $3,000 raised at the recent pro-am bowling tournament to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
“Last year we began our commitment to the donation, and it really helped make our tournament special, so we definitely were going to continue with it this year,” Jim Miller, manager of Forest Hill Lanes, said in a press release. “We beat our expectations in 2008, and we did even better this year, thanks to a tremendous turnout of local amateurs and top-quality nationally-ranked pro bowlers.”
The 2009 donation is 20 percent higher than in 2008. The money was raised from pro-am registration fees, a silent auction and a donation from the Klein family, which owns Forest Hill Lanes.
“We’re extremely pleased that Forest Hill Lanes chose to continue to support our work with seriously ill children throughout the region,” said Lisa Huber of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, who accepted the check. “This year’s economic conditions have affected donations to the Children’s Center, so the fact that the Lanes’ donation this year is significantly higher than last year is just wonderful.”
Professional bowlers from all over the eastern United States and amateur bowlers from throughout the Baltimore-metro area competed in the pro-am tournament, which was held at Forest Hill Lanes July 10-12. The 2009 professional division was won by Chris Collins of Savannah, Ga., with Eddie van Daniker Jr. from Essex placing second. The adult amateur division was won by Janet Saneman, with Herb Boardman placing second.
Forest Hill Lanes is at 1 Maurice Drive in Forest Hill, and hosts bowling events of all kinds, from friendly games and kids’ parties to professional competitions.
