Marge Rosasco and Melissa Hexter repeated as age-group winners in the New Balance Jenny Smith Baltimore Women’s Classic 5K Sunday.
The two Harford runners finished near the front of the pack of 1,398 over a course between the Baltimore Museum of Industry and Fort McHenry.
Hexter, a standout runner as a freshman at Bryn Mawr School this spring, ran 20:12 for 12th place overall. The 14-year-old from Bel Air won the under-15 age group by a margin of 70 seconds.
Rosasco, 61, of Joppa, won the 60-64 age group by 3 1/2 minutes in 23:39. She placed 45th overall and bettered by 1:12 the time she won the age group with last year.
Other local runners finishing in the top 100 were Elizabeth Spangler of Forest Hill, ninth in 40-44 in 24:58; and Barbara Stachowiak of Kingsville, 10th in 40-44 in 25:18.
The race, dedicated to promoting fitness and healthy living among women, drew a field 40 percent larger than last year’s. Phoebe Ko, 26, of Baltimore was the first finisher in 17:29. Lee Dipietro of Ruxton was first among the masters in 18:44.
Eagleman Triathlon
Lou Otremba of Bel Air finished the Eagleman 70.3 Triathlon with a swift 1:27:13 half-marathon run June 14 in Cambridge.
The finish earned Otremba 14th place in the 30-34 age group in 4:28:33. He completed a 1.2-mile swim in 26:49 and a 56-mile bike course in 2:29:39 (22.6 mph) in the first two phases of the race. His 13.1-mile run time was the sixth best among the 1,500 competitors.
Shawn Loper of Bel Air finished five places behind Otremba in 30-34 with the fifth-best 13.1-mile run, 1:27:11. He averaged 22.1 mph on the bike to finish in 4:39:23.
Shana Hersh of Havre de Grace was the fastest among Harford women in 5:55:45. She swam 37:24, averaged 19.9 mph on the bike and ran 13.1 miles in 2:20:05.
Other Harford finishers were Chris Fiacco, Forest Hill, 5:34:26; Scott Walton, Jarrettsville, 5:43:15; Daniel Peters, Bel Air, 5:47:32; Frank McKenzie, Bel Air, 5:54:07; Lisa Gesualdo, Bel Air, 6:19:05; Brian Price, Abingdon, 6:20:47; Toni Guidi, Forest Hill, 6:29:45; and Lois King, Forest Hill, 7:19:15.
In other races
Charles Powell II of Abingdon won the Stride2Provide 5K at Baltimore’s Druid Hill Park Saturday. He led the field of 62 runners in 17:51, finishing 2:41 ahead of the second-place runner.
Eric Rose and Christine Trzcinski led the way Saturday in the RASAC Pop Pop Trail Scramble, a 6-mile race in Gunpowder State Park. Rose finished in 49:25, and Trzcinski was second overall among 25 runners in 52:33.
Scott Smith, 53:24, and Seth McElroy, 56:02, took second and third among the men. Margaret Starnes, 60:01, and Bonnie Schaefer, 68:28, were second and third among the women.
Duane Christy of Havre de Grace placed fourth in the 40-49 age group in the Third Race for Time 5K in Wilmington, Del., Saturday. He ran 19:28 to finish 30th among 307 finishers. Two weeks earlier, Christy finished third overall in a field of 200 in the Arthur J. Turner Scholarship 5K in Wilmington, running 19:43.
